IGNIS Energía Launches a New Service for the Management of Energy Savings Certificates (CAEs)

What are CAEs?
An Energy Savings Certificate (CAE) is an electronic document that certifies that, after implementing an energy efficiency measure, an annual final energy savings equivalent to 1 kWh has been achieved.

CAEs allow these energy savings to be monetized, enabling individuals or companies that have carried out an action generating savings to sell these savings directly to energy suppliers or to intermediary companies in exchange for financial compensation.

What actions generate CAEs?
Any action that results in energy savings can generate CAEs. A comprehensive list of standardized energy efficiency measures is outlined in the Resolution of July 3, 2024, issued by the Directorate-General for Energy Planning and Coordination, which updates Annex I of the Order TED/845/2023. Below are some of the most common measures:

  • Replacing the existing lighting system with an LED lighting system.
  • Replacing HVAC equipment with aerothermal systems.
  • Replacing the existing combustion boiler with aerothermal technology.
  • Renovating more than 25% of the total surface of a building’s thermal envelope.
  • Renovating the opaque part of a building’s thermal envelope.
  • Deep retrofitting of residential buildings.
  • Replacing the refrigerant in a cooling system.
  • Replacing induction electric motors.

What are the benefits of the CAE system?

  • Promoting energy efficiency: On a broader scale, this system further encourages the development of measures that promote energy efficiency for businesses and individuals, contributing to environmental care and more conscious energy use.
  • Regulatory compliance: Companies can use CAEs to meet energy savings and emissions reduction regulations, while energy suppliers can purchase them to meet their obligations under the National Energy Efficiency Fund.
  • Encouraging technological innovation: This system incentivizes the implementation of more efficient technologies, driving the adoption of new solutions to improve energy efficiency.
  • Economic benefits: The system offers the opportunity to monetize energy savings, recovering part of the investment costs. The savings owner can receive compensation by selling their savings for certification purposes.

What is IGNIS Energía’s CAE management service?
IGNIS Energía provides its clients with a comprehensive solution that optimizes the CAE issuance process. IGNIS’ Technical Office oversees every step of the process: from information gathering, analysis, documentation collection, signing of the CAE Agreement, energy savings verification with the National Accreditation Entity, and CAE management with the Regional Manager, through to monetization.

In short, our approach simplifies every stage, ensuring a more efficient and streamlined experience.
