IGNIS reaches a strategic agreement with ENGIE for the acquisition of IGNIS Luz, its energy supply business for SMEs

ENGIE will acquire 100% of IGNIS Luz, the energy supply division for SMEs of the IGNIS energy group. Both companies announced the deal this Thursday, March 26.
The transaction is expected to be completed by mid-2026, subject to the relevant regulatory approvals.
Based in Madrid, IGNIS Luz has experienced significant growth since its launch in 2021. Today, it supplies energy to more than 50,000 customers across the country, with a strong focus on companies and businesses.
This acquisition strengthens ENGIE’s presence in the Spanish market, consolidates its positioning along the energy value chain, and represents an important milestone in its global growth strategy in energy retail.
ENGIE is a leading industrial company, strongly committed to the energy transition and decarbonization. Present in 30 countries, it operates across the entire energy value chain: generation, distribution, and retail. The group, which already supplies more than 200,000 companies, aims to reach more than 300 TWh of electricity supplied to businesses and households by 2030. To achieve this, ENGIE continues to strengthen its energy supply business in key European markets, with a clear mission: to provide valuable, affordable, and simple energy solutions.
For its part, with this transaction, the IGNIS group advances its strategy, maintaining its integrated profile within the energy sector and focusing its supply activity and energy solutions on large consumers. It will also continue its growth ambition both as an independent power producer (IPP)—with more than 1 GW of owned generation plants in operation and under construction—and as a leading company in energy and asset management, with 10 GW of operational assets under management across all technologies.
Loreto Ordóñez, CEO of ENGIE Spain: “This transaction is a key milestone in our growth strategy in Spain and reflects ENGIE’s commitment to the Iberian Peninsula and to the development of a carbon-neutral economy. We have an ambitious roadmap and firmly believe that, through innovation, technology, and our expertise, we can accelerate the energy transition and support our customers on their path to decarbonization.”
Jean-Nicolas Lejeune, Managing Director of ENGIE Supply & Energy Management Iberia: “The combination of IGNIS Luz and ENGIE opens a new chapter in the energy retail market in Spain. It is an honor to welcome such a talented team to build this new chapter together.”
Santiago Bordiú, CEO of IGNIS Energy: “Thanks to IGNIS’s vision and drive, in less than five years IGNIS Luz has established itself as a leading energy retailer for SMEs. With its integration into ENGIE, this success story will surely continue. At IGNIS, we will continue to provide the best energy supply and decarbonization solutions to data centers and industry, leveraging our comprehensive capabilities within the energy sector and our flexibility and adaptability to our customers’ needs.”
Martín Ogueta, CEO of IGNIS Luz: “This transaction marks an important milestone in the history of IGNIS Luz and for all its employees. We were born and grew under the umbrella of a great group, IGNIS, and now we are joining ENGIE, a global energy leader with whom we will face our next phase of growth. To achieve this, we will develop new products and solutions and accelerate the digital transformation of our business and our customers’ experience.”

About ENGIE in Spain
With a strong presence in Spain across the entire energy value chain for more than 25 years and over 1,700 employees nationwide, ENGIE’s strategy focuses on producing energy in an environmentally responsible way and supporting its customers on their path to carbon neutrality. In this way, ENGIE helps provide cleaner energy, more sustainable cities, and more efficient industries.
Its decarbonization strategy is based on two pillars: transforming its own energy production through the development of renewable energy, and supporting the decarbonization of its customers through industrial solutions that reduce energy costs and CO₂ emissions.
ENGIE is the sixth-largest power generator in Spain, with installed capacity of around 3,800 MW, including more than 1,700 MW of renewable assets (wind, solar, and small hydro) and 2,000 MW of flexible, low-carbon generation. Together with its customers, ENGIE develops and manages more than 300 MW of assets that enable the energy transition (industrial self-consumption solar plants, solar thermal plants, biomass boilers, and cogeneration).
The company is also active in energy retail, trading, and management, and is a leading player in structuring and implementing long-term renewable power purchase agreements (PPAs). ENGIE is a national leader in district heating and cooling networks (Barcelona, Zaragoza, Pamplona, Palencia, Ávila, etc.) and has extensive capabilities in the design, development, commissioning, and operation of industrial solutions to help customers consume energy more efficiently.
ENGIE’s key differentiator lies in its ability to manage the entire energy value chain, handling the financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of all types of industrial assets for decarbonization. These capabilities make ENGIE a key partner in Spain for accelerating the energy transition and building a better, more sustainable future.
